Sprinters Burn and Jumpers Sky
With temperatures soaring to 86-degrees, the 2011 BorderDuel athletes recorded 10 new meet records and tied another. A record number of participants also added to the depth of most events and re-wrote the top ten list.
Most Outstanding Performer honors went to:
Boys Track Events - Arthur Delaney (Barlow, OR) smashed his own 400m dash meet record with a sizzling 47.74 to claim the #1 ranking for Oregon.
Girls Track Events - Georgia Henderson (Sunset, OR) broke through in the 200m with a meet record of 24.89 to move to #3 in the Oregon rankings.
Boys Field Events - JJ Julifs (Sheldon, OR) flew over the bar in the pole vault at 16-02 for a new meet record.
Girls Field Events - Rachel Proteau (West Albany, OR) cleared 5-09 to break the meet record by 5 inches.
Deep fields in the events saw wholesale changes in the BorderDuel top ten list. In the boy's pole vault, 7 of the top 10 marks now belong to the 2011 competition; for the women's shot put, the top 6 marks made the meet top 10; in the boy's 400m, there were 6 new marks that made it into the top 10; and in the boy's 800m, 5 of the meet's fastest 10 times came from the 2011 meet.
The 800m provided an exciting finale on the track as the first three finishers all PRed. Marcus Dickson (White River, WA) 1:52.60 and Austin Collins (Colton, OR) 1:52.68 battled all the way to the finish with Badane Saltessa (Centennial, OR) close behind in 1:53.42. All three runners broke the meet record of 1:53.44 set last year by Tim Petite (Kentwood, WA).
